Donald Dubh
The first chief of the clan to be accepted by all authorities, but numbered XIth, was the younger brother of Ewen. He became chief about 1400. His name was Donald MacEwen, commonly called Donald Dubh, and he had charge of the clan during the troubled times when disputes over land and titles were constantly causing battles in which the Camerons took the side of whichever of the claimants would best further the interests of the Camerons. In 1411 Donald Dubh supported Donald, 2nd Lord of the Isles at the Battle of Harlaw, ('Red Harlaw' because of its bloodiness), and in 1429 went with Alexander, 3rd Lord of the Isles at the sacking of Inverness, but deserted to the King (James I).
