John Cameron of Lochiel
John was a known Jacobite, and was attainted for his part in the '15 rising. However he had taken the wise precaution in 1706 of making over his estate to his young son Donald, so his lands could not be forfeited. King James created him 'Lord Lochyel', but the title never caught on. "The King can mak' a Duke, but he canna mak' Lochiel". John also led 150 Camerons in the small Jacobite landing at Lochalsh in 1719. After the battle of Glenshiel John made his way again to France and exile
