Sir Ewen Cameron of Lochiel
Grandson of Allan MacIlduy, the XVIth Chief, Ewen led the Clan from the age of eighteen until his death at ninety. He proved himself an able exponent of guerrilla tactics against the Cromwellian troops occupying Scotland, and fought equally hard to preserve his clan lands from the claims of Mackintosh and others during a period of almost thirty years. He was knighted in 1682 by the Duke of York. He and his Camerons fought at Killiecrankie with Bonnie Dundee, but eventually had to submit to an honourable peace with the victorious government of William & Mary.
