Allan MacIlduy

A child when his father Donald Dubh was killed, Allan was sent to Mull for safety to be brought up. On his return to take up the leadership of the Clan, he married the daughter of John Stewart of Appin, with whom he had been in love for some time. He had four children, and after his wife died he married again at the age of sixty-two.

It was during Allan's time as Chief that the troubles with the Erracht branch of the family erupted, which were to last, on and off, for many years. Allan took decisive action to suppress the rebels, and several of the Erracht family were killed.

Allan led a long and eventful life, and, although of necessity he had to be a man of action, he had the ability to act diplomatically when necessary to gain advantage for his clan.
